Hearing loss in children: what to do?

Hearing is an important part of learning in a child's life, so it is important to pay attention and look for the signs of hearing loss. In case, any child is experiencing hearing loss (under 16), they should be taken to a doctor at the first instance. The doctor will be able to determine if it is a ear infection or that requires a specialist referral.

Causes of hearing loss in children

There can be several factors that may cause hearing loss in children, some major ones are listed below:

  • Genetic factors causing congenital hearing loss include autosomal recessive hearing loss, Autosomal dominant hearing loss & Genetic syndromes.
  • Non-genetic factors include birth complications, infection, lack of oxygen, Premature birth, nervous system or brain disorder.
