What happens during a 20-minute hearing test?

It's the first step to better hearing health

The first thing to do when you start to notice your hearing isn't what it used to be, is to book a free 20-minute hearing test. Because hearing loss happens gradually over time, it can be difficult to detect a change.

During this initial hearing test, you will be played a series of sounds through a set of headphones, and all you need to do is press a button each time you hear the sounds. These results will show whether there is any signs of hearing loss and if more testing is required.

This test is available for anyone over the age of 18, and no referrals are needed - so you can get started by booking your free hearing test today.

We strongly recommend getting your hearing checked every year. However, there are signs and symptoms of hearing loss that you should look out for, so it becomes more of a priority.

What happens at a comprehensive hearing assessment with an audiologist?

If hearing loss is identified in the initial 20-minute hearing test, the next recommended step is to attend a comprehensive hearing assessment with an audiologist. Although sometimes a hearing assessment is recommended as the first step depending on an individual's situation, bypassing the hearing test.

This more comprehensive assessment is a 1-hour appointment which is made up of a number of different examinations. The more advanced hearing assessment is made up of a number of different examinations. The results of these “examinations" are combined to form a thorough evaluation of your hearing levels and the extent of hearing loss.

The outcome of these tests will create an audiogram that shows the levels of hearing range. These results are instant, and your audiologists will talk you through the results and what they mean. From here, it can be determined what actions can be taken - such as prescribing hearing aids - to improve your hearing and, hence, overall quality of life.
