It’s important to take care of your hearing aids not only to maintain high performance levels, but to help minimise any potential problems you may experience with everyday use. A hearing aid is made up of several different parts, each of which will need regular cleaning to ensure maximum performance and life span. If you need extra help you can contact your local clinic who can help you through the process.
Ear wax and dust and debris are not a friendly combination for hearing aids. Each night after you remove your hearing aids, wipe them gently with a tissue or soft cloth. If you are prone to collecting ear wax in the tubes and filters of your hearing aids, use the soft brush and ear pick, that comes with your hearing aids, to remove the excess wax.
Moisture build-up is one of the most common reasons why hearing aids need repair. To avoid this problem, you can invest in a hearing aid dehumidifier or drying container. Simply remove your hearing aid batteries and place the hearing aids in the container. Overnight, the dehumidifier will dry them out. Contact your local Amplifon clinic to find out about purchasing a dehumidifier.
To help prolong battery life, open the battery door each night to disconnect the batteries - there is no need to remove the batteries completely from your hearing aids. Store them in a cool, dry place. We recommend keeping them in the same place everyday and ensure that they are kept out of harms way - such as where pets or children may be able to reach them.
Use the cleaning brush provided to remove wax from your device every day before you put them on, particularly around the microphone and the sound outlet.
Face the area you are brushing toward the floor, helping loosened wax to wall away.
If your hearing aids aren’t working as well as you think they should, contact your local Amplifon clinic for advice.
