Hearing aids at no cost to pensioners in Australia

Hearing loss can significantly impact quality of life, particularly for seniors. Fortunately, pensioners in Australia may be eligible for fully or partially subsidised hearing aids through government programs*.  Amplifon  is an accredited service provider of the Hearing Services Program, and can help you access government subsidies if you're eligible. Enter your details above and our friendly team will call you back to see if you're eligible for this Government program.

Which hearing aids cost $0* for pensioners?

The Australian Government Hearing Services Program (HSP) provides hearing aids at zero cost for eligible pensioners*. The program covers a range of fully subsidised hearing aids, ensuring that seniors with hearing loss have access to essential support. Additionally, pensioners can opt for partially subsidised hearing aids under the HSP Partially Subsidised Device Schedule, which includes more advanced models with additional features at a reduced cost.

Department of Veterans' Affairs

Seniors receiving an Age Pension, Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) benefits, or other qualifying government payments may access hearing aids at zero cost through the HSP. The program includes not only hearing aids but also hearing assessments, maintenance, and ongoing support.

What are the best hearing aids at no cost to Pensioners?

The best fully subsidied hearing aids* for pensioners depend on individual hearing needs. Government-subsidised hearing aids typically include high-quality digital devices with essential features like:

  • Noise reduction – Helps minimise background noise for clearer conversations.
  • Feedback suppression – Reduces whistling and other unwanted sounds.
  • Automatic volume control – Adjusts sound levels based on the environment.
  • Adaptive directional microphones – Focuses on speech while reducing background noise, making conversations easier in noisy settings.
  • Telecoil technology – Enhances sound clarity during phone calls or when using hearing loop systems in public venues.

While premium features such as Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone compatibility, or rechargeable batteries may require a co-payment, many pensioners find that the fully subsidised options provide excellent performance for daily communication. Pensioners should consult an audiologist to determine the best hearing aid based on their lifestyle, hearing loss severity, and personal preferences.

When should you get a hearing test?

We strongly recommend getting your hearing checked every year. However, there are signs and symptoms of hearing loss that you should look out for so it becomes more of a priority.

Hearing loss is a very common problem - it’s something that affects 3.5 million Australian adults. The good news is that there are many provisions and services in place for those people who experience it.

Why are hearing test and assessment different?

A free hearing test is the initial 20-minute test completed by one of our hearing care professionals, where the outcome of your test will help identify whether or not you have some form of hearing loss.

A hearing assessment, or comprehensive hearing test, is then recommended to complete if your initial free hearing test identifies hearing loss.
