Understanding the cost of hearing aids

Understanding the cost of hearing aids is crucial for individuals considering these essential devices. The average cost of hearing aids in the medical field can vary significantly, often posing a financial challenge. It is important to break down these expenses into initial purchase, ongoing maintenance, and eventual replacement costs to fully grasp the financial commitment. Workers Compensation

Workers compensation is a form of insurance payment to employees if they are injured or become sick due to their work. When it comes to hearing loss, noise exposure at work is a common cause.

Workers compensation is governed seperately by each state and territory. For more information, ask your local clinic.

Private Health Insurance

Some private health insurance providers cover the cost of comprehensive hearing assessments, while others offer rebates for hearing aids. We recommend that you check your insurance policy before purchasing any hearing aids.

Household Contents Insurance

Your household contents insurance provider may reimburse you for your hearing aids if they are lost, stolen or damaged. If you already own hearing aids, we recommend that you specify them with your insurance provider to ensure that they are covered.

Assessment process for the HSP

At Amplifon, the assessment process for the Hearing Services Program (HSP) ensures eligible individuals receive tailored hearing care. Here’s how it works:

  • Initial Consultation: Eligible individuals start with a consultation with an accredited hearing care professional to discuss their hearing history, lifestyle, and specific concerns.
  • Comprehensive Hearing Assessment:  The hearing care professional conducts a detailed hearing assessment, including various tests to evaluate the individual’s hearing ability across different frequencies and environments.
  • Personalised Recommendations: Based on the assessment results, the hearing care professional provides personalised recommendations for hearing aids and other hearing solutions, considering the individual’s specific needs.
  • Fitting and Customisation: If a hearing aid is recommended, the hearing care professional performs a fitting session to customise the device to the individual’s hearing profile. Fine-tuning ensures optimal performance and comfort.
  • Ongoing Support and Follow-up: After the fitting, ongoing support is provided, including follow-up appointments for any necessary adjustments and regular check-ups to maintain hearing aid performance and overall hearing health.

At Amplifon, we aim to make the HSP assessment process thorough and supportive, ensuring eligible individuals receive the best possible hearing care.

How can you apply for HSP funding?

To apply for Hearing Services Program (HSP) funding, eligible individuals must first visit the Hearing Services Program website or contact an accredited service provider like Amplifon. The application process typically involves completing an eligibility check, which may require providing proof of eligibility, such as a Pensioner Concession Card, Department of Veterans’ Affairs card, or evidence of receiving relevant allowances from Centrelink. Once eligibility is confirmed, individuals can register for the HSP and select an accredited hearing service provider. The chosen provider will then guide them through the necessary steps, including scheduling a hearing assessment and assisting with any required paperwork to ensure they receive the appropriate subsidised hearing aids and services.
