How to connect your hearing aids to a smart tv

1) Check if your TV supports Bluetooth audio:

  • If your smart TV supports Bluetooth audio output, go to TV Settings > Bluetooth and pair your hearing aids. If your hearing aids appear, select them and pair.
  • If your TV doesn’t support Bluetooth, you may need a Bluetooth transmitter.

2) If TV doesn’t support direct Bluetooth connection:

  •  Many TVs only support Bluetooth headphones, not hearing aids.
  •  If that’s the case, you can buy a Bluetooth transmitter.
  •  Plug the Bluetooh transmitter into your TV’s audio output.
  •  Pair your hearing aids with the transmitter.

3) Use your phone as a bridge (if supported)

  •  Some hearing aids can connect to the TV via a smartphone app.
  • Connect your hearing aids to your phone via Bluetooth.
  • Use the TV’s casting feature (like Apple AirPlay or Google Chromecast) to stream sound through your phone to your hearing aids.

Are bluetooth hearing aids dangerous?

Bluetooth hearing aids are safe to use and pose no significant health risks. They operate with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), emitting minimal radiation well below levels considered harmful by health organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the FDA. Extensive research has shown no evidence linking Bluetooth radiation to health issues. These devices are regulated by safety standards set by agencies like Health Canada and the FCC, ensuring they are safe for long-term use.

While Bluetooth hearing aids are safe, it’s important to use manufacturer-approved batteries to avoid potential safety concerns like overheating or leakage, and to keep the volume at a comfortable level to prevent hearing damage. If you have a medical implant like a pacemaker, it’s a good idea to consult your doctor, but most modern devices are shielded against interference. Overall, Bluetooth hearing aids are a safe and effective solution for improving hearing.

How often should hearing aid tubing be changed?

Hearing aid tubing should be replaced every 6 to 12 months, or sooner if it becomes cracked, discolored, or stiff. Regular checks for signs of wear will help keep your device working effectively and comfortably.
