Tinnitus Support Group Launched in Staffordshire

Residents suffering from tinnitus in Staffordshire can now attend a new support group.

Charities the British Tinnitus Association (BTA) and Deaflinks have launched a new group for people with tinnitus in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. The aim is to help alleviate the stress and anxiety conditions that that can be associated with tinnitus.

It is estimated that 46,900 people in Stoke-on-Trent have persistent tinnitus, which is defined as the experience of sounds with no external source, such as a buzzing or ringing in the ears.

Dave Carr, BTA volunteering and engagement officer, said that many people were bringing along loved ones to the meetings, and that they were helping families to reconnect with loved-ones and better understand the
debilitating effect tinnitus can have on many aspects of life.

Dot Mantle, from Deaflinks Stafforshire, said: "Setting up this group will enable individuals to access the advice and support that they need to explore new ways of managing this condition and share their own
experiences with others."
