What to expect from a hearing screening

It’s important to have you hearing checked regularly especially if you’re over the age of 50. Your hearing changes as you get older and identifying some of the early warning signs will enable you to discuss hearing solutions that can be personalised just for you.

Your guide to a hearing health screening
A hearing health screening is an easy way to assess the health of your ear canals and ear drums. The screening includes a thorough examination including a Video Otoscopy, which could help to identify any underlying causes of hearing loss. Some of these include:
- Excessive accumulation of ear wax
- Fluid accumulation in the middle ear
- Perforation of the eardrum
- Scar tissue on the eardrum
- Infection
- Any abnormalities in the ear canal
Your Audiologist will use a small fibre optic camera called a Video Otoscope. This is placed at the entrance of your ear canal and allows you to see exactly what's happening in your ears on-screen.
Once the health of your ears has been assessed your results will be discussed with you. We will also perform a quick hearing screening test. If there is any indication of hearing loss your Audiologist will advise you to arrange a full hearing test.
The hearing health screening process can take up to 40 minutes.
Do I need a hearing health screening?
If you're over 50 and haven't had your hearing checked in the last 2 years, or you find yourself in the situations highlighted below, we highly recommend you speak with you local Audiologist for further advice.
