Introduction

The importance of the medical and scientific community is well recognised by Amplifon and this is clearly shown from the close links that have existed between the company and the academic world since Amplifon was first set up.

The research activity of the company has not stopped since 1967 when the first issue of  "Notiziario Bibliografico d'Audiologia, ORL, Foniatria" was published, in which scientific abstracts and bibliographies from all over the world could be found. This had led on to the setting-up of the CRS, the Amplifon Centre of Research and Studies (the International CRS prize is considered the Nobel prize of research into hearing) where even today important courses, workshops, seminars, meetings and conferences are regularly organised, which then lead on to the latest research projects.

Of note among the most important research activities:

GEN.DEAF GENetic DEAFness, a study seeking to understand the pathogenetic mechanisms of deafness with a genetic cause that would permit early diagnosis and, thanks to early treatment, would reduce the impact of the psychosocial consequences of the illness.

D.E.A.F: Distance Hearing Aid Fitting, a project to identify the best practice for a distance system of fitting hearing aids by means of interaction with the patient via Internet, using existing information technology methods.
