So you won't appear rude by accidentally ignoring someone speaking to you on your unaided side and you know where alarm sounds are coming from - which could be critical for your personal safety! • If you're in a busy restaurant or at a party where lots of people are speaking, it's easier to pick out the voice of the person you want to listen to. Over time the ear without a hearing aid may suffer from 'auditory deprivation', resulting in even greater hearing difficulty and problems understanding speech. So wearing two hearing aids, carefully adjusted by your hearing aid audiologist to work together, will be better.

It is very difficult to make direct comparisons between different manufacturers' hearing aid systems. From an overall quality perspective such as reliability and construction quality, I would say that GN ReSound and Phonak products are very similar. Comparing the Phonak Solana with the GN ReSound Alera range, I would say that Solana is more equivalent in terms of technical features to the Alera 7; these products could be described as generally mid range technology level. The Alera 7 is in a higher band of technology and more equivalent to the Phonak Ambra. However, the Solana has a technical feature called 'Sound Recover' which does not exist in the Alera range and can be very useful for those with severe higher frequency hearing losses. The Transear is one method of assisting single sided hearing loss but generally relies on the better ear having either normal hearing or a mild hearing loss. Unfortunately, you do not say what make of drying capsules you have. However, it is not normally the case that these drying aids/dehumidifiers involve putting a hearing aid into loose crystals. You should have been supplied with some instructions with the drying kit. However, it is more likely that a capsule is put into the cup with your hearing aid(s) rather than having to empty out the crystals from the capsule into the cup. There should be no reason why impressions for your earpiece cannot be taken at your local Amplifon Hearing Care Centre. It would be necessary for your security earpiece to be examined so that the correct type of earfitting can be chosen. The cost of doing this would be given to you when you visit your local Amplifon Centre as the price may depend on the style of the earpiece and the material from it needs to be made.

To the best of my knowledge, the GN ReSound Musician Hearsaver is only available in Australia. Hearing protection for musicians, usually fitted with the ER20 filter, is available in the UK but this is not within the product portfolio of GN ReSound in the UK. Your hearing aids would seem to be a 'Power' version as you have described them as "CIC P". The size 10 battery for these hearing aids is the smallest size. So you have a combination of higher levels of signal processing which is drawing power from relatively small capacity batteries. If you are using your hearing aids for most or all of the time, which is good of course, changing batteries every 3 or 4 days is typical. It is important not to remove the battery tab until you are ready to change a battery and keep the battery tray open when the hearing aids are not in use. I would also suggest that you make an appointment with your local Amplifon Hearing Care Centre and have your hearing aids checked. Sometimes, there signal processing features running which are not very necessary for you and an alteration in the settings can reduce battery drain.

Although Amplifon operates in many countries around the world, there are no global arrangements in place as hearing care provision differs widely from country to country. So, I cannot say that there are advantages to acquiring a hearing aid system in the UK if you are not a UK resident. The main reason for this is that prescription and fitting of hearing aids must be accompanied by rehabilitation support and ongoing aftercare.
